Filing Agents & Responsibilities

Filing agents are authorized officials trained to receive and file applications to the St. Maarten Maritime Administration office for any seafarer’s certifications. Ship-owners may apply directly to the Administration office for authorization to act as a filing agent. A filing agent’s responsibilities include:

• Reviewing the application form for completeness and accuracy.
• Verifying that applicant photographs and identity documents match actual originals.
• Ensuring that required physical examinations are current and in correct format.
• Reviewing original qualifying documentation and STCW endorsements.
• Witnessing the signing of the application and completing the reserved filing agent section.
